MACTEC acquires the SS-Series
11/30/08 - Shonka Research Associates, Inc. (SRA) is pleased to announce the sale of its SS Series Technology to MACTEC, Inc. Nearly a decade ago, SRA received Small Business Innovative Research funding from the NRC to develop more sensitive methods for measuring gamma radiation in the field. These developments have been used for many of the free release site surveys at nuclear plants undergoing D&D, including Hope Creek (Forked River); Rancho Seco; Saxton; and Yankee Rowe, among others. The method, now called the scanning spectrometer (SS) was further developed into a means to sort radiologically contaminated debris and soils at rates 10 to 100 times faster than past methods while attaining significantly reduced detection levels. The Radiological Services Division of MACTEC will continue to develop the technology and pursue opportunities to partner with clients to cost effectively remediate sites where radioactive material contamination is a concern. As a part of ongoing industry consolidation, SRA is pleased to be transferring the rights and key staff members to its SS Series Technology to an organization with the broad depth of experience and capabilities MACTEC offers. SRA and MACTEC have shared in a successful partnership utilizing the unmatched capabilities of the SS Series products and SRA is excited that MACTEC will be furthering the technology and expanding its market reach. Dr. Shonka will remain involved with implementation in a consulting capacity in order to ensure that the transition is successful.
The primary point of contact for MACTEC is Steve Rima, Vice President of the Radiological Services Division. He can be reached at 970-243-2861 or sdrima@mactec.com.
