Oak Ridge National Laboratory Contamination Assessment Survey

July 2002

In June, 2002, SRA was contracted as part of the SEC RADCON Alliance to perform radiological surveys in support of the ORNL Contamination Assessment Investigation Committee. The SCM is capable of rapid 100% coverage of survey areas and can be deployed on a variety of platforms which allows it to survey many different flat surfaces such as sidewalks, parking lots, roads, walls, ceilings, and grassy fields. Over 22,000 m2 was surveyed in about 10 days for an average cost of $2/sq meter. Positional gamma subtraction method was performed in areas that had spatially dependent exposure rates (i.e. surveys that were adjacent to large radiation sources, such as stored waste). SRA received a letter of commendation from the client for our efforts.
