Forked River Site
Forked River Site
June 1998
The Forked River Site is a 400-acre tract adjacent to the Oyster Creek Station, and contains support facilities for the operation of the station. The survey was performed in support of the company's planned divestiture of the property in order to provide assurance that the site was not radiologically affected by the operation of the plant. It was designed to satisfy the requirements for a scoping survey for a Class 3 area as specified in the Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM) endorsed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense. The survey consisted of both building and land areas. Specifically, 17 areas including, more than 11,000 square feet within buildings were surveyed with the SCM/SIMS. These surveys involved the collection and processing of more than 400,000 measurements at 36 measurements per square foot. The land area surveys included 21 areas and more than 47,000 square feet. These surveys were conducted with the Sub-Surface Multi-Spectral Contamination Monitor, and resulted in the collection and analysis of more than 5,000 gamma spectra. Sensitivities of an order of magnitude less than the prescribed Derived Concentration Guidelines were achieved for both the land and the building surveys. All surveys were completed within six days. A final report detailing all survey results and establishing that the scoping survey indicated that the Forked River site is not radiologically affected by the operation of the plant was provided to the client within two weeks of completion of the survey.
