Fernald Closure Project

In March 2006 Fluor Fernald Inc. contracted with MSI/SRA to perform radiological surveys in support of the Fernald Closure Project. SRA’s Surface Contamination Monitor (SCM) was used in scanning mode to survey concrete slabs and walls for alpha+beta and in static mode for alpha surveys of concrete structures. SRA's graphical imaging and mapping of elevated areas of activity provided Fluor Fernald with precision locations to perform volumetric sampling and analysis. The process significantly reduced the number of samples to meet regulatory requirements for release. In addition, it provided a significant time savings to an already accelarated schedule.
